This was perhaps put to best use by the Aoki family, original Samurai founders of the US Benihana restaurant chain, who created a cocktail of food and entertainment that was to become known as Teppanyaki (literally Teppan meaning ”steel grill” and yaki meaning ”griddled”). Not even six months after their launch they received a rave review from Clementine Paddleford, a leading restaurant critic. Following this business exploded, and the Aoki family set off on a lucrative journey of expansion and franchise.
